If you take one thing away from this guide, let it be this: keep the bleach away from your gear. While it is great for getting stains out of white towels, it is a nightmare for professional-grade finishes.
When we build our frames, we use specific coatings designed for durability. Harsh acids and bleach eat through these protective layers. Once that barrier is gone, oxygen hits the metal, and you have a rust problem on your hands. If you are using wooden bespoke BDSM furniture, these chemicals will cause the wood to dry out, crack, or peel, which is a great way to ensure your submissive gets a splinter in a very unpleasant place. (And that is the wrong kind of "stinging" sensation).
You need something that kills bacteria and viruses without dissolving the hardware. Here is what we recommend keeping in your dungeon cleaning kit:
Isopropyl Alcohol (70%): This is the industry standard. It evaporates quickly and kills almost everything. It is safe for most metal finishes and powder coatings, but be careful using it on low-quality plastics or certain leathers as it can dry them out over time.
Toy Cleaners: Most high-end toy cleaners are actually perfect for your furniture. They are designed to be "body-safe" and non-corrosive. They are usually antimicrobial and won't mess with the lacquer on your wood or the finish on your steel.
Mild Dish Soap and Warm Water: Do not underestimate the basics. For the initial "wipe down" to remove physical mess, soap and water are your best friends. Just make sure you dry the frame completely afterward.
Quaternary Ammonium Compounds: Often found in professional gym wipes, these are fantastic for large surface areas. They are non-corrosive and designed to handle high-traffic equipment.
Hygiene isn't just about wiping the top of the mattress. When we build our bondage bed frames, we include various slots, hooks, and joints. Fluids have a frustrating habit of finding their way into these crevices.
After a particularly intense session, take the time to check:
Restraint Slots: Use a cotton bud dipped in alcohol to get into the narrow openings.
Under the Frame: Gravity is a factor. Always check the underside of the rails.
Bolt Heads: If fluids sit around the bolts, that is where rust will start first.
If you know things are going to get particularly "fluid-heavy," do yourself a favor and use a barrier. A fitted PVC sheet or a high-quality throw can save you thirty minutes of scrubbing later.
We build our equipment to last a lifetime, but that assumes you aren't trying to dissolve it with industrial-strength bathroom cleaner. Treat your BDSM furniture with the same respect you give your submissive (or more, depending on your mood), and it will stay in pristine condition for years.
